BUSINESS UNIT OVERVIEW: Format
Format has been a strong and reliable brand in the Wellington market for over thirty years. Originally a family owned company, the business was sold to the McCollams group in 1997 and then to Blue Star one year later.
Format employs seventy seven full time staff comprising of sales/admin, prepress, printing and bindery/dispatch. We also have a pool of twelve casual staff to call upon when required for hand finishing.
Our key strength is our people. Long standing experienced staff in key positions and also the ability to grow our own staff inside the business, creating an excellent internal culture.
Capabilities and Technology
Format services predominantly the Wellington market with clients ranging from designers, ad agencies, corporate organizations through to Government departments.
Format houses the most up to date printing technology available in the world today. Full in house prepress, two Heidelberg A1 presses (both installed in 2004), a guillotine, four folders, a cylinder for perfing / diecutting and a saddle stitching machine makes us very versatile and capable of meeting all clients needs.
Along with all of the new equipment we have also installed image control. This enables us to read colour consistency on the sheet which raises the bar in print quality giving far greater colour consistency.
Format has strong relationships with all of our suppliers so any print related service required ranging from print finishing through to mailing we can accommodate.
Formats strapline is 'innovation in print' This stresses the constant effort we put in to make our business more effective. This ranges from being environmentally friendly through to testing and trialing and sometimes creating new printing methods.
Format supports the Dowse museum in Lower Hutt. The Dowse is a great asset to the Wellington region displaying exhibitions of well known artists from all over the world. It also has a strong connection with local business and technology.
People
Format believes in growing our own people and have seven apprentices and trainees throughout the company. With our key experienced staff throughout the business these trainees get the best opportunities available running state of the art equipment.
The business is split into four departments, prepress, print, bindery and dispatch, each responsible for finance and reporting each month.
